Welcome we are Maria and Mike, originally from London UK we have made Zur Alten Weinkelter our home for the past 7 years. We have more than 20 years experience in the food service and hospitality industry. Previously we have also renovated other historic buildings both in the UK and here in Germany our last being in Monschau the historical town located in the hills of the North Eifel. Our current home, Zur Alten Weinkelter offers a quite adult only retreat where the emphasis is on peace and relaxation. We have four well equipped apartments with all you need for a comfortable memorable break. We also have a peaceful guest only wine terrace and garden for your enjoyment. In the evening and until the late hours our wine cellar is also open for our guests. We are totally independent and aim to choose the best wines from the region and local producers for your enjoyment. The wine producing village of Ellenz is conveniently located between Koblenz and Trier, Germany‘s oldest city. With Cochem and Zell only a few kilometres away with many attractions for you to explore. We offer free travel by bus and train within the entire VRM  area and more with our guest ticket. There are also many other seasonal travel and event offers, please ask at time of booking.

Zur Alten Weinkelter is around 500 years old and is an important example of the late gothic historical heritage of the Mosel Valley. The building is listed and a protected historical monument it will be our pleasure to share it with you. 
Here are a few interesting timeline highlights from the period when the oldest part of the house was constructed.

1509 Henry VIII ascends the English throne.

1509 Martin Luther publishes theses denouncing the church and starting the Germany Reformation 

1524 German 'Peasants' War begins. 

1500-1530 Zur Alten Weinkelter constructed.

1535 Henry VIII, announce's he's the head of the English church, and the English reformation begins.

1558 Elizabeth I, Daughter of Henry VIII, ascends the English throne.
